Episode 3: Camp Starlight Feature!

I am so happy to announce that Episode 3 of The Candy Show is up on iTunes! Y'all really should check out this podcast. My dear friend C-J. joins me to talk about his experience working as a volunteer councelor for Camp Starlight, a camp for young people affected by HIV/AIDS. This Portland-based camp provides services free of charge for all campers and it's an amazing experience for the kids who attend. I'm attaching some info on the camp and I want y'all to check it out and consider making a donation to this group. They need all of your support, especially in these difficult times we're in. Let's help make the world a little brighter for some folks that need it!

Camp Starlight is a week-long residential camp that provides children whose lives h­ave been affected by HIV/AIDS the opportunity to enjoy a caring, safe, recreational, spiritual and fun camping experience. Every August since 1999, 65 children ages 5-14 travel to the Oregon Coast to enjoy a week of fun. Camp activities range from arts and crafts, canoeing, swimming, music, carnival, and nature walks, to a sleep-out under the stars. Having fun and developing friendships continues to be the focus of Camp Starlight, but it has now made a subtle shift toward addressing HIV/AIDS and the role it plays in the children's lives. Sixty-five carefully screened volunteers create the environment, serving as supporters, mentors, and role models for the campers.

The objectives of Camp Starlight are:

Provide an inclusive social environment that is free of stigma and shame.
Facilitate friendships and a sense of community for the children.
Encourage creative expression and self-discovery through programming that includes music, art, drama, and outdoor recreation.
Provide the children with a staff of caring mentors who are knowledgeable about HIV/AIDS.
Monitor the children's dietary and drug regimens.

It's Purim, y'all!

NEW YORK - Folies-Esthere, the annual downtown Purim costume extravaganza featuring seduction, sedition, scandal and celebration returns on February 27 for one night at 272 W. 10th Street in New York City.

Dress in costume and join King Ahasuerus and Queen Vashti (played by Candy Samples) for a dissolute evening at the Royal Palace, navigate Haman's treachery and the Vashti Vixens, and enjoy music by The Cavemen along with food, wine and beer.

What: Folies-Esthere, a Purim costume extravaganza

When: Saturday, February 27 at 7 p.m.

Where: 272 W. 10th Street (West 10th and Washington)

Admission: $10 (Free for New Shul members)

Hello My Sweets,

I've been away from the blog, but I just want to say thanks for tuning in to The Candy Show, Season 3. I've had to take a little time off earlier this year, but I want y'all to know Candy is back in business.

I'm proud to announce that I've joined the Thursday night company of fabulous gals at Lavish Lounge. Host Mimi Imfurst and the girls have all been wonderful, and I look forward to seeing you all out in the audience each week!

The CD is almost complete, and I'm shooting for a September release...and I'm in talks to perform in New Orleans for Southern Decadence this Labor Day Weekend.

There's plenty of Candy to satisfy your sweet tooth! Y'all take care and remember to be sweet!
